The short answer

Pick by the problem you have. For a score on your delivery (pace, filler words), use PowerPoint Speaker Coach or Yoodli. For AI roleplays and coaching, use Yoodli. For reading a script to a camera, use a voice-following teleprompter such as PromptSmart or Teleprompter.com. For rehearsing and delivering a slide talk, with a script that follows your voice, slides that advance as you speak and help with the questions, use Aitho. The practical difference on the day: with Aitho you need no clicker and nobody has to wait for you to say "next slide."

Name the problem first

"Rehearsal app" covers several different jobs. Before you install anything, ask which of these is true for your next talk:

  1. I don't know how I sound. You want feedback on pace, filler words and pitch.
  2. I want to get better as a speaker over time. You want coaching and practice scenarios.
  3. I am recording to camera. You need a script near the lens that keeps up with you.
  4. I am presenting slides and I lose my place, or dread the questions. You need your words, your slides and the Q&A to stay in step.

The tools, one by one

PowerPoint Speaker Coach. Built into PowerPoint for the web, Windows, macOS and tablets. It listens while you rehearse and reports on pacing, pitch, filler words and reading from slides. Microsoft says it needs an internet connection, currently understands English only, and does not set slide timings or run your show (Microsoft support). Best for problem 1. Aitho vs Speaker Coach.

Yoodli. An AI communication coach with roleplay scenarios and a speaking report on pacing, conciseness and filler words, plus optional AI follow-up questions. In team roleplays the AI can present slides an admin uploads. Much of it is aimed at sales and training teams; its pricing page lists a free plan with five lifetime sessions (yoodli.ai). Best for problems 1 and 2. Aitho vs Yoodli.

PromptSmart. A teleprompter whose VoiceTrack speech recognition scrolls your script as you speak, with apps for iPhone, iPad, Android and desktop, and a store listing centred on recording video. Best for problem 3. Aitho vs PromptSmart.

Teleprompter.com. A teleprompter app whose VoiceGlide feature scrolls your script as you speak; on a Mac it can keep the script floating above other windows during a video call or a recording. Best for problem 3. Aitho vs Teleprompter.com.

Aitho. Built for problem 4: a slide talk delivered to a room or a call.

  • Bring your slides as they are. Import a PDF or PowerPoint file. Keynote and Google Slides work by exporting to PDF or PowerPoint first. Aitho never edits your slides.
  • A first-draft script if you need one. Aitho can draft a first-pass speaker script from your slides, which you then edit into your own words. Or paste your own.
  • Your script follows your voice. The script scrolls as you speak and highlights the word you are on.
  • Slides advance as you reach their words. When you speak into the next slide's section, the slide moves, so you are not reaching for a clicker mid-sentence.
  • A private presenter view, a slides-only audience view. Your script and answers stay on your screen. The room or the call sees only your slides.
  • A private Q&A copilot. When a question comes, the copilot drafts an answer from your deck and the documents you attach, shown only on your screen.

Other tools help you build, rehearse or read a presentation. Aitho helps you deliver it.

A routine that uses more than one

These tools are not either-or. A practical week before a big talk: rehearse the deck out loud in Aitho until you stop losing your place, practise the five questions you most fear, then do one pass through a feedback tool to check your pace. On the day, keep your script on your screen and let the slides follow you.

If your talk is judged or has rules about assistance (a pitch competition, a defense, an exam), check the rules first. Using any of these tools to rehearse is fine.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good app to rehearse a presentation with my own slides?

If you want to rehearse a specific slide deck out loud, Aitho imports your PDF or PowerPoint, follows your voice through your script and advances the slides as you speak. PowerPoint Speaker Coach also works inside PowerPoint and gives a delivery report afterwards.

Is there a teleprompter that follows my voice?

Yes. PromptSmart and Teleprompter.com scroll a script as you speak, mainly for recording to camera. Aitho follows your voice through a speaker script and also advances your slides, for live slide talks.

Which app gives feedback on filler words?

PowerPoint Speaker Coach and Yoodli both report on filler words and pacing after a rehearsal.

Facts about other products come from each company's own website or support documentation and were checked on October 6, 2026. Features and plans change, so confirm on their sites before you decide.
