Teleprompter app for Android: use your Android phone to follow your script while presenting

Your Android phone can hold your script while the audience watches your slides. The setup takes a few minutes; the rehearsal is what makes it work on the day.

Short answer

A teleprompter app for Android helps a slide presenter when the script follows your voice, the audience screen comes from a separate source, and you have rehearsed what happens when you pause, skip or restart. Install, allow the microphone, import the deck, rehearse those three moments out loud, then test the room screen.

What a presenter needs from the phone

When you present slides, you need two things on two screens: private support that keeps your place, and a clean view of the slides for everyone else. An Android phone is a good home for that private support. It is already in your pocket, it is small enough for a lectern, and you can glance at it without turning your back on the room. The second has to come from somewhere else: a laptop connected to the projector, or the window you share on a call.

Prepare a script that is easy to pick up

Write one short section per slide in the words you would say out loud, not the words on the slide. Short sentences are easier to find again after you look up. Keep names and numbers exactly as they appear on the slide, and decide which line ends each slide.

Rehearse the three moments that go wrong

Reading a script straight through is the easy part. Rehearse the moments that throw people:

  1. You pause. Stop for five seconds, as you would for a question or a laugh. The script should wait for you, not scroll away.
  2. You skip. Jump over a paragraph, as you would when you are short of time. Check that the script finds you again.
  3. You restart. Go back and repeat a sentence. Practise doing it calmly; the audience rarely notices.

Then do one full timed run, standing, with the phone where it will be on the day.

Know your device before the day

Speech recognition on Android depends on the phone and its speech service. Test in a room that sounds like the real one: a quiet office tells you little about a hall with an air-conditioning hum. Keep the phone charged, turn off notifications, and carry a printed one-line-per-slide backup. If anything stops responding, you can move slides by hand and talk from the backup.

Set up an Android teleprompter with Aitho

Get the Android app on Google Play and sign in; the same account works on iPhone and in any browser.

  1. Import your deck. On Talks, tap Import and choose your PDF or PowerPoint (.pdf, .pptx or .ppt). Keynote or Google Slides decks: export to PDF before importing.
  2. Add your script. Paste or type what you'll say on each slide, or use Draft with AI for a draft from your slides (in Pro and Presenter Pro). A script is optional, but Aitho follows your voice more closely with one.
  3. Rehearse. Tap your talk, choose Just this phone, allow the microphone, and tap Start. The script follows your voice and each slide advances when you reach its words. If you pause, the script waits; when your words return it catches up, and if you skip ahead, it follows. Spoken commands like "next slide" and "go to slide 3" also work, and you can tap Back or Next at any time.
  4. Put the slides on the room screen. Open aitho.app/cast on the presentation laptop, tap Show on a screen in your talk, and enter the 6-digit code. The room sees the slides; your script stays on your phone. Please don't mirror your phone: that shows your script.

On Android, voice-following needs a connection. When the phone's speech service supports on-device recognition, the audio stays on the phone; otherwise short segments go to Aitho's own server to be transcribed and discarded. Details are on Security & privacy. Steps with video: use your phone as a teleprompter.

Aitho is free to start. The free plan includes the voice-following script, your own PDF or PowerPoint, the Android and iPhone apps and any browser, and three private answers to try. No card.
