Teleprompter for Microsoft Teams: set up a teleprompter for your Teams presentation

Teams gives you more than one way to share slides. Pick the one that keeps your script private, check it from an attendee’s seat, and rehearse the moment someone interrupts.

Short answer

A teleprompter for Microsoft Teams works when your script stays on your own screen or phone and the attendees see a shared slides window. Decide between PowerPoint Live and sharing a window, keep the script out of whatever you share, check the attendee view in a test meeting, and rehearse an interruption.

Three ways to share slides in Teams

  • PowerPoint Live. In a Teams meeting you can choose Share and pick a PowerPoint file under PowerPoint Live, or select Present in Teams from the PowerPoint desktop app. Microsoft says presenters get their own view to control the presentation while they see the meeting, and lists .pptx and .ppsx as the supported file types (Microsoft Support, checked 8 October 2026). If your notes there are enough, use it.
  • Sharing a window. You share one application window with your slides. Everything else on your computer stays out of the share.
  • Sharing your screen. The whole display is shared, including any notes, chats or notifications. Avoid this when you have a script open.

A voice-following teleprompter fits the second route: you share a slides window, and the script lives somewhere the share cannot reach.

Keep your script on your own device

Put the script in a separate window on the screen with your camera, placed just under the lens, or on your phone propped beside the webcam. Either way it should not be part of what you share. Turn on Do Not Disturb so chat pop-ups do not cover the script.

Check the attendee view

Book a five-minute test meeting with a colleague, or join from a second device. Share the slides window and ask: do you see the slides? Do they change when I speak or click? Can you see anything else, such as notes, a script or practice answers? Fix any surprises now rather than in front of the real audience.

Rehearse the interruption

Teams meetings get interrupted: a raised hand, a question in the chat, someone unmuting. Rehearse once with a colleague who interrupts halfway. Answer, say where you were ("back to the timeline"), and pick up the script. If you want to practise likely questions in advance, write them down and answer each out loud in about thirty seconds.

Troubleshooting

  • The window list does not show your slides window. Make sure the window is open and not minimised, then reopen Share.
  • Your microphone goes quiet. Choose the same microphone in Teams and in your teleprompter and test both together.
  • Teams on the web. Your browser may ask for screen-sharing permission; allow it before the meeting.

Set up a teleprompter for Teams with Aitho

  1. Prepare the talk. Import your PDF or PowerPoint into Aitho and add your script.
  2. Open the Audience Stage window. Click Present, choose On a video call, pick Teams, and open the Audience Stage window. Your Presenter View, with your script, stays on your screen.
  3. Share that window in Teams. Share the Audience Stage window, not your whole screen and not the Presenter View: both of those show your script. Presenting from a phone? Choose A video call on the phone and the phone stays your private teleprompter.
  4. Start and speak. Your script follows your voice and each slide advances when you reach its words; attendees see the slides move as you speak.

If the wrong window ever gets shared, one key blanks everything private. Practise questions privately beforehand: attach your notes or documents to the talk, type a likely question, and a suggested answer from your own material appears on your screen. Aitho is not a Teams add-in and is not a coaching tool like Microsoft's own features; it is a script and slide workflow you share into the meeting. See present on Zoom, Teams or Meet.

Free to start: the free plan includes the voice-following script, your own PDF or PowerPoint (or the sample talk), any browser plus the iPhone and Android apps, spoken slide commands, and three private answers to try. Free needs no card. Current plans are on the pricing page.

Questions

How do I use a teleprompter in Microsoft Teams?

Share a single window with your slides and keep your script in a separate private window or on your phone. In Aitho, share the Audience Stage window in Teams while the script follows your voice in the Presenter View.

Should I use PowerPoint Live or share a window?

Use PowerPoint Live if its presenter view and your notes are enough. Share a window when you want a voice-following script that is kept outside the share.

Can attendees see my notes in Teams?

Not if you share a single window that contains just the slides. Sharing your whole screen can show anything open, including notes.

Is Aitho a Teams add-in?

No. You open Aitho’s Audience Stage window and share it in Teams like any other window.
