Questions people ask

Pitch competitions, 3MT and graded talks

What rehearsal help is allowed before a judged talk, how to practise a hard time limit, and what to do about the venue laptop. On the day, the event’s own rules apply.

What is allowed

Can I use Aitho for a pitch competition, a three-minute thesis or a graded presentation?

Rehearse with it as much as you like. On the day, the event’s own rules on notes and assistance apply, and those rules are the organiser’s to set, not ours.

So can I have the script running while I pitch?

That depends entirely on the event, and you should ask the organiser rather than us. Plenty of events allow notes; plenty do not. Practising out loud beforehand is allowed everywhere.

What about TEDx or PechaKucha?

Rehearse freely. TEDx talks are given without notes on stage and PechaKucha runs on a fixed slide timer, so on the day the format decides.

Is it cheating to rehearse with something that follows my voice?

No more than practising in front of a mirror is. What it changes is that you can run the talk end to end without stopping to find your place, so you practise delivering rather than navigating.

Hitting the time limit

How do I practise for a hard three-minute limit?

Say it out loud at full speed, timed, on the device you will use. Reading it in your head is reliably 20–30% faster than saying it, which is how three-minute pitches become four-minute pitches on stage.

How long will my script take to say?

Paste it into the talk-length calculator for an estimate, then check the estimate against one timed run-through out loud — your own pace is the number that matters.

I speak faster when I am nervous. Can I practise that?

That is the main thing rehearsal fixes, and the fix is mechanical: shorter sentences and a marked place to breathe. Running it out loud twice shows you which sentences you cannot finish in one breath.

On the day

The venue has its own presentation laptop. Can I still use my script?

Yes. Open aitho.app/cast on the venue laptop, get a 6-digit code from your talk, enter it, and the room screen shows your slides while your script stays on your own phone or laptop. The venue machine needs no account and no install, only a current browser and internet.

Can I mirror my phone to the projector instead?

Please don’t — mirroring shows the whole phone, script included. Use the 6-digit code so the room screen only ever carries slides.

Several of us pitch one after another. How does the changeover work?

Leave aitho.app/cast open and full screen on the venue laptop. Each speaker gets their own 6-digit code; enter the next speaker’s code at the changeover and their slides appear.

What do the judges see?

Your slides, and nothing else. Your script, your notes and any private answers stay on your own screen.

For organisers

We run the event. Can our finalists get it free?

Yes. Email help@aitho.app with the event and roughly how many speakers and we will switch on Presenter Pro for them at no cost. Setting the rules for the day stays with you.

Can we list it in the finalist or speaker pack?

If it is useful to your speakers, yes — ask and we will send a two-line description in whatever format you use.

Something not answered here? Email help@aitho.app and a person replies, usually within one business day.
